Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has urged the Home Minister Amit Shah to take action against the increasing incidents of Pakistan-origin drones being used for dropping consignments of arms and ammunition in the state. The Captain took to his social media handle and revealed that the neighboring country is doing this following the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir special status under Article 370.

Punjab Chief Minister’s concern comes after the Punjab Police busted a terrorist module of the revived Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF). They said it was backed by a Pakistan based terror group. They are conspiring to unleash a series of terror strikes in Punjab and other states.

The CM has also requested the Central government to direct the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Border Security Force (BSF) to launch counter-measures against any further threat from drones to the border state.

An FIR has also been registered at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar police station under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act, Prisons Act, and various relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code.

AMAZON GREAT INDIAN FESTIVAL SALE AND FLIPKART BIG BILLION DAYS SALE TO KICK OFF SOON: HERE’S WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR

With Diwali celebrations coming up, online retailers are gearing up to announce their annual sales. While Amazon hosts the Great Indian Festival every year around this time, Flipkart is preparing to announce the Big Billion Days sale, which going by previous sales, could be held around September 21. While the two e-commerce platforms have yet to announce the dates and deals on gadgets, Amazon has a dedicated microsite for the sale where it is touting ‘Never Before Offers’ on smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy M30, OnePlus 7 Pro and the Xiaomi Mi A3. The online retailer is also teasing some special new launches, exchange offers, no-cost EMI option and deals on smartphones

Flipkart, on the other hand, has revealed some details about the Mobile Exchange Program, which is said to be something to look out for this during the upcoming Big Billion Days sale. As per the e-commerce platform, all working phones will be considered in the exchange program this year, even if they have broken displays. The exchange value will also be based on the condition and the variant of a handset, instead of a pre-set fixed price. Additionally, Flipkart says it will also accept old smartphones that aren’t being considered under an exchange program by other online retailers. One can choose the ‘any other smartphone' option while opting for the exchange program, in case their device is not present in the list.

Both Amazon and Flipkart are once again preparing for the festive sales season, where they reported strong growṭh last year. In 2018, Amazon said that more than half a million users performed some sort of transaction on its platform during last years’ festive sale while Flipkart is said to have doubled its customer base during the same festive months of the sale.

APPLE RESPONDS HARSHLY TO GOOGLE'S IPHONE EXPLOIT REVEAL

Last week, Google detailed a list of five iOS vulnerabilities discovered by its security team. The post by Google described the attack as “potentially hitting thousands of people,” triggering sort of panic amongst iOS users. To assuage concerns, Apple has released an official statement, clarifying a number of things.

Addressing Google’s post directly, Apple clarifies that the attack was very narrowly focused on, and not

Something designed to be “en masse.” The exploit was targeting a very specific population in China. The websites where the exploits were hosted only kicked into action after the user visiting the website met a number of conditions. What served to cause concern amongst users was Google’s claim that the attacks had been going on for two years, whereas Apple states that their analysis has shown that the attacks were operational only for a brief period, up to 2 months. Lastly, Google revealed the chain of exploits 6 months after Apple had already patched them via a software update.

Apple’s statement seems to imply that Google’s disclosure of the exploits was worded in a way to cause concern amongst the iOS user community. Apple’s statement reads that “Google’s post, issued six months after iOS patches were released, creates the false impression of “mass exploitation” to “monitor the private activities of entire populations in real-time,” stoking fear amongst all iPhone users that their devices had been compromised.” Interestingly, Google’s post does not disclose that the exploits were targeted at the Uighur community, an omission which is likely to have led to the mass panic.

While Apple’s statement seems to downplay the impact of the vulnerabilities in iOS, it does not address the fact that there were 5 exploits which could be used to monitor real-time activities of users. While the highlight issue targeted a small community within China, it could have just as well been used anywhere else in the world, to spy on any number of people. While Apple has claimed that the company takes user privacy very seriously, the presence of such exploits on iOS does leave room for many questions around the degree of Apple’s commitment to user privacy.

HUAWEI ANNOUNCES KIRIN 990 5G WITH 16-CORE MALI-G76 GPU

A few days ago, Samsung announced the Exynos 980, the company’s first processor with an integrated 5G modem. Now, at IFA 2019 Huawei has unveiled the Kirin 990 5G, which it is calling "industry's first 5G SoC." Further, the company claims that Kirin 990 5G is the best in class chipset in terms of power efficiency. The Huawei Kirin 990 5G is made from a 7 nm manufacturing process. It consists of nearly 10.3 billion transistors, which is 6.9 billion more than its predecessor, Kirin 980.

The Kirin 990 5G features a refreshed CPU architecture

With two Cortex-A76 2.86 GHz cores, two Cortex-A76 2.36 GHz cores that juggle everyday workload and four Cortex-A55 1.95 GHz cores efficiency cores for lighter tasks. Huawei claims that Kirin 990 5G offers a 10 percent single-core and 9 percent multi-core performance advantage as compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset.

The Kirin 990 5G sports a Mali-G76 GPU for the graphics needs. It has been optimised to pack 16 cores, which is six more than the Kirin 980. Huawei claims that the Mali-G76 GPU offers a 6 percent overall performance boost and 20 percent power efficiency boost as compared to the Snapdragon 855.

The new chipset also features an improved dual-image signal processor (DISP) for better photo-taking capabilities as compared to the Kirin 980. Huawei has said that the new DISP can reduce noise in still images by up to 30 percent and by up to 20 percent in videos.

The Kirin 990 5G features an improved Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that is said to boost the ETH AI benchmark by up to 4.76 (percent) than the Kirin 980.

Additionally, Kirin 990 5G will be the first all-in-one, full-frequency 5G chipset to hit the markets. The company claims that Kirin 990 5G’s split uplink design and machine learning-based adaptive receiver will help boost 5G speeds in places of "high-movement" and weak signal-strength, for example, cars, trains and more. In theory, the Kirin 990 5G is capable of delivering 1.25 Gbps upload speeds and 2.3 Gbps download speeds.
